Creative Visionary & Mentor
Every impressive performance begins with a story—and for Teresa Hardy Ward, her story started with a deep love for the arts and a dream to help others shine.
The Early Years: Led by her mother, a 4-H Program Director, Teresa was a 4-H kid and later became a youth team leader in her community.
The Inspiration: She found a place where imagination thrives and confidence grows at the Knott Street Community Center. There, Mary Rouse—a program arts and craft director affectionately known as “Dancing Mary”—inspired seven girls to explore “interpretive dance” movements.
The Ebony Movements: As one of the original seven members of “The Ebony Movements,” Teresa began performing immediately, gracing stages across Portland, Oregon, and surrounding areas, including the Governor’s Tea.
A Rising Talent: Teresa’s passion deepened at a magnet high school, where she studied dance and theatre. As a first-year student, she earned the leading role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
The Visionary: Teresa wrote and directed her first play, Twaz the Night Before Christmas, which earned a standing ovation and marked the beginning of her journey as a creative visionary.
Her Mission Today: Influenced by Charlotte and Cecil Burnett, Teresa founded nonprofit arts organizations in Phoenix, Arizona, and Portland, Oregon, before expanding into the Austin, Texas area. Today, her mission continues: to inspire, empower, and build.
“The greatest reward is not the spotlight; it is seeing each performer find their niche because there is Faith in Movement, Harmony in Voice, Truth in Story.” — Teresa Hardy Ward
